Try beekeeping experiences or training sessions if you've ever wanted to have a go at being a beekeeper or need training in beekeeping- perhaps you are just getting started as a beekeeper or need to be able to handle bees/beehives as part of your job or scientific research.

These sessions involve meeting at one of my apiary sites, where we start by talking about bees and hives to cover some theory of the bee lifecycle. We then get suited up have a safety briefing before explaining how to inspect a colony and letting you loose on the bees-or perhaps the bees loose on you! Some people feel a little overwhelmed at times when going through a hive so there's no pressure to do anything if you'd rather watch- it's very much down to what you want to get out of the experience. You are welcome to take photographs of the bees and questions are welcome. There is more time to chat afterwards, including about beeswax and other hive products and a jar of honey is included for you to take home.

In terms of protective equipment, you need to bring your own wellies. I provide the bee suits and gloves. In the summer, I also recommend bringing a bottle of water.

Please note that these experiences are weather dependent and are not suitable for people who have allergies to bee stings; there is always a small risk of stings occurring although this obviously is something we try to avoid!

Children can enjoy these experiences too but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Group sessions are priced at £45 per person for an approximately 90 minute slot and there may be up to four others having the experience at the same time. 1:1 and other bespoke experiences are also possible by request.

To book your session, send a message on the form below with the rough dates you are interested in having your beekeeping experience on.
