Apiary set up

From advice only through to risk assessment or sourcing and supplying hives and bees, Wilco's Bees can help your business set up an apiary regardless of whether you simply want bees on site or wish to produce local honey for use within your organisation.

Bees have a number of beneficial effects on the environment - although there is nuance to this which I can advise on - and there are various opportunities to use beekeeping for social good and wellbeing. Many organisations are now keeping colonies of bees on their sites, whether at ground level, on balconies or rooftops.

There are plenty of different designs and configurations of hives so let Wilco's Bees do the hard work for you in getting your apiary set up and running.

Keeping bees is a responsibility and they have different needs through the year; from weekly management to avoid swarming in spring, provision of adequate space to store nectar to make honey in summer and treatment for pests such as the varroa mite to maintenance of the hives themselves, monitoring of the bees and management of their stores over winter. Wilco's Bees offers a comprehensive and worry-free service to look after the bees on your site.

Honey extraction

Most years bees will produce a surplus of delicious honey- the flavour is phenomenal especially when compared to much of what's available in supermarkets. Many people believe it helps with their hayfever and other ailments.

Honey can be a unique corporate gift as no two batches are exactly the same. Alternatively, you can make the jars available to staff- potentially in return for them donating to a charity of your choice.

Should you wish to retain honey from bees on your site, Wilco's Bees offers an extraction and bottling service, returning honey in unlabelled jars ready for you to apply your own branding. Advice on label design can be provided and pre-labelling of jars is also available. Pricing is proportionate to the amount of honey produced.

Besides management of the bees, Wilco's Bees offers beekeeping themed events including talks on beekeeping topics, the bees on your site (if you have them), the environment/nature, sustainability and more. Honey tasting is generally very popular and provides a great way to teach people about the natural cycle of flowering plants through the year as well as the radical difference between cheap honey and 'the good stuff' direct from local beekeepers. Additionally, staff often enjoy the experience of putting on a beekeeping suit and being show how to inspect colonies of bees, which can be a fantastic team bonding experience.
